The New Zealand Cadet Forces and Training Ship Waikato will reward you by challenging you to step outside your comfort zone. We are a voluntary, uniformed organisation which provides military-style leadership, personal development opportunities and adventure-based training to youth aged between 13 and 19 years old with a nationally coordinated training program which offers challenges and opportunities that no other organisation can.
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is a core function of our organisation; Cadets begin at the bottom and are rewarded with higher ranks as they progress through our training objectives. By the end of the 4 year formal training module, they will be leading other cadets to achieve tasks.
SAILING
Each Corps of Cadets has it’s own unique flavor, ours is sailing and being New Zealand’s only inland Navy Cadet unit does not stop us. Gets will be given the opportunity to learn all there is to know from types of sails to VHF radio and everything in between. Sailing is the perfect mechanism for us to practically apply the leadership skills learned.
FIREARMS TRAINING
Cadets are trained in the safe handling and operation of firearms and given the opportunity to shoot .22 caliber rifles within a controlled environment.
TEAMWORK
All our training focuses the Cadets to work together to grow as a team, from a camp dedicated to uniform care and drill (marching) a Cadet must learn to lean on and support others so that they can achieve their goals.

Are the workers behind the success of a Cadet within the organisation. Being a voluntary role these pivotal positions are often hard to fill so if you are interested please contact us.
All NZCF Officers are subject to our NZCF 7 Criminal Records check process and this is refreshed every 3 years.
SUPPORT COMMITTEE
Like schools, our unit has a support organisation that runs the financial elements of the unit. If you would like to give back to your local Navy Unit but aren’t quite able to commit as an Officer, this could be perfect for you.
All executive members of the Support Committee are subject to our NZCF 7 Criminal Records check process and this is refreshed every 3 years.
